Thursday 10/5/17.  The students learned about Compound Probability today.  The students took notes & discussed how to solve these probability problems.

Wednesday 10/4/17.  Today the students had an intro to Probability.  They watched a short video clip & took notes.  The Chapter 4 Fractions TEST was also returned.  Students who would like to improve their grade need to come in to see Mrs. Choate during NUTRITION or LUNCH on Wednesday or Thursday to get help from peer tutors & pick up a correction sheet. This will need a parent signature and turned in by FRIDAY to earn points toward the test grade.

 

HW: Probability (#1-7) please correct your answers with a RED PEN from google classroom to earn a stamp.

9/28/17 Thursday. Last day to review fractions. The students worked together to solve fraction word problems.  They also used the computers to correct answers in class using GOOGLE CLASSROOM. Students did not need to finish all problems from the packet in class, but are welcome to finish it on their own for good extra practice. 

Then they also took time to complete & fix mistakes on the Review Sheet due tomorrow.

9/27/17 Wednesday. Today the students worked together to review fractions/decimals/percents with a matching game (see attached to make your own to play at home).  We will take a formative assessment on quizizz.com also.

9/26/17 Tuesday.  Read and understand the DECIMALS & Fractions conversions flipbook.  We will talk about some common decimals & fractions to memorize like $Money$ 25 cents is 1/4th of a dollar or 75% is 3/4 ths of 100.

Also we will recognize patterns in fractions so they don't always have to be divided to convert to a decimal.  Students are asked to start to memorize these common decimals & fractions so they don't use a calculator or long division to get the correct solutions.

 

 

 

9/25/17 Monday. Lesson on Terminator vs. Repeater Decimals & Fractions.  We will do a discovery lesson to find out the patterns and tricks to identify terminating & repeating decimals/fractions.

9/21/17 Thursday.  Today the students worked in groups to solve FRACTION WORD PROBLEMS.

 

 

 

 

 

Wednesday 9/20/17.  Today the math lesson was to divide fractions.  My little hint: "Write it, Multiply it, Flip it"  was our trick to be sure to solve these fraction problems to get the correct answer!

 

 

 

Tuesday 9/19/17.  Today the students worked on multiplying fractions.  The best trick is to cross-simplify first and then multiply.

Go to INFINITE CAMPUS. Click on REPORTS.  There is a Grades Report Document for Q1 Progress reports.  It has grades & comments for each class.  Feel free to print this for your records. 

 

Thursday (minimum day) 9/14/17.  Today the class zoomed by fast with only 30 minutes, but the students were able to Learn and Understand how to Add Mixed Fractions.  (see the helpful videos on GOOGLE CLASSROOM).

 

 

Wednesday 9/13/17. Today once more we reviewed adding & subtracting fractions.  Students worked as peer tutors to help one another while Mrs. Choate walked around the room and worked one on one with a few groups of students as they had questions.  Over all the students felt much more confident by the end of the period.

Then we filled in the FRACTION FOLD-ABLE for Adding & Subtracting Fractions with Negatives. This seemed like a challenge but the students got it with no problem.

 

Tuesday 9/12/17. Today we worked on UNDERSTANDING two methods for adding & subtracting fractions. See the GOOGLE CLASSROOM notes & videos for extra help.

Wednesday 9/6/17: Today the students got a new packet for Chapter 4 FRACTION OPERATIONS.  (please keep Chapter 3 Integers packet in your math binder until the end of Quarter 1)

 

 

Tuesday 9/5/17: Today the Chapter 3 TEST was returned. The students were given time in class to work together and fix their mistakes.  Then the students completed a Performance Task called "Weather Report" if this was not finished in class it is HW due tomorrow.

D period Thursday 8/31 or B & C Friday 9/1, Today the students started with the Negative Number Q3 as a warm up to be prepared for the Chapter 3 Integer Test.

The students were also given plenty of time in class to get started on "Get the Point, WABBIT" graph picture.

 

 Wednesday 8/30/17.  Today in math the students took the section practice Negative Number Quiz.  Hopefully they are improving their own score. At the end of the week the BEST score will be recorded into their math quiz grade section.

 

Then the students checked their math grade on INFINITE CAMPUS.  They discovered that it is important to look at all of the details & assignments in their grade not just the over all grade.  Each section is weighted a different percentage.

 Monday 8/28/17.  Today the students learned the rules for multiplying & dividing integers through Mrs. Choate's famous "Positive Pete & Negative Ned" story!  Fun times in math!

 

 Friday 8/25/17, today the students took their first quiz on integers (Chapter 3.1 to 3.3 QUIZ).  The homework is the last page in the packet. Select one or both pages.

 

 Thursday 8/24/17. Today in math the students will use a student laptop to play a math quizizz.com game. This game will review all of the integer concepts we have learned so far from Chapter 3. There will be a Quiz assessing integer skills on Friday 8/25/17.

 

 Wednesday 8/23/17, today the students reviewed adding and subtracting integer rules with notes and practice. 

 

Tuesday 8/22/17: Today we reviewed SUBTRACTING Integers!  Remember NO subtract sign, instead "add the opposite" or "keep,change, change."

 

 The students received their Math Textbook today. This is a workbook that can be used at home or with a tutor for extra practice & review. There are great examples, definitions and SBAC practice for each lesson. Feel free to use this resource at home. The students do need to bring this book to school.

 Friday 8/18/17

Today we used the student laptops to get onto GOOGLE CLASSROOM for Math class.

 

 On Thursday the students used integer tiles to solve adding integer problems.  The students discovered the rules to adding integers.

 

 

 

Please be creative and add COLOR to the whole circle. Draw pictures write words neatly and clearly!

 Today we started with a review of opposites and absolute value.  Then the students worked with COUNTERS to create integer problems.  The students worked with a partner and used counter tiles to solve integer questions.

These funds will specifically benefit the students on Team Extreme to go on a FIELD TRIP to the CA Science Center.  We will be attending the interactive Body World Exhibit This field trip will cost between $10 - $15 per student.  The Clash for Cash Fundraiser will allow you to support this Team Extreme Field Trip to the CA Science Center. Tuesday, August 29th is the beginning of Clash for CASH with a video during SURFER.  Students will learn about this great fundraiser for our school.

 Today we started the math BINDER.  The students put a title page section for quarter 1 Ch 3 Integers & Ch 4 Fractions & Decimals.  These title pages include the class norms, pencil contract, a place to record grades each week from INFINITE CAMPUS, math goals (please write these on your own due Friday), steps to success in math, and how to be an amazing math student.

 

We made a section for Math Homework. Students were reminded to "ALWAYS SHOW YOUR WORK!" This section is the Chapter 3 Integer Operations in class notes and homework packet. Students discovered the numerical meaning of words such as 8 degrees below zero = -8, a deposit of $15 = +15 etc. In class we started an intro to integers and began the "Bank Robber" worksheet.  Most students need to take 5 minutes to finish this page.  It is due tomorrow.
